HC gives nod to cut mangroves for Ulwe coastal road

On Tuesday, the Bombay high court granted City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) permission to chop 3728 mangroves for the construction of the 5.8 kilometer Ulwe coastal road, which will connect the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL) to Navi Mumbai and the planned Navi Mumbai International Airport. According to CIDCO's appeal, on March 2, 2019, the state environment impact assessment authority granted coastal regulation zone (CRZ) clearance with the condition that appropriate forest clearance be obtained for the diversion of more than 32 hectares of forest land.

Even wife living in husband's home must get maintenance: HC

Observing that a woman residing in her matrimonial home is entitled to receive maintenance for necessary expenses, Bombay high court upheld an order that directed a man to pay interim maintenance to his wife and minor son. "The mere fact that she is residing in the matrimonial home is not a pretext to disentitle her to a reasonable amount of maintenance. She still needs some amount towards food, medicine, clothes and educational expenses," Justice Neela Gokhale said.

Mumbai cop gets call to update KYC for bank a/c, cheated of Rs 5 lakh

A police inspector in Mumbai lost Rs 5 lakh in an online scam. The inspector was targeted in a KYC fraud, where he received a call claiming his bank account would be blocked for not updating his KYC details. The scamster asked the inspector to download a remote access app, gaining access to his banking details and stealing Rs 5 lakh. The inspector immediately contacted the National Cyber Portal helpline and registered an online case. The fraudster posed as a telecaller for a private bank and tricked the inspector into entering his debit card and PAN card details.
