China and the Chinese consulate in Mumbai have spent Rs 50 lakh to upgrade a civic school in Solapur, the hometown of Indian doctor Dr Dwarkanath Kotnis, who served in China during the Second Sino-Japanese war. Last year, the consul general announced the establishment of Dr Kotnis Friendship School in Solapur. The consulate has proposed renaming the school as Dr Kotnis Friendship School to honor his sacrifice. The consulate aims to sow the seeds of friendship among young Indians and strengthen China-India ties. The upgraded school now has a new drinking water system, sports ground, CCTVs, and beautification.
