The state transport department in Mumbai has launched a drive against vehicles without valid pollution under control (PUC) certificates. The penalty for not having a PUC certificate can go up to Rs 10,000, and for cars and heavy vehicles, the fine for the first offense is Rs 2,000. The transport commissioner has also stated that FIRs will be filed against PUC testing centers that do not comply with emission norms. This initiative is in response to the Bombay HC's directive to implement measures to curb pollution.
