19 Marathas ended lives for quota in 12 days: State data

Data from the Maharashtra state government shows that 19 Marathas committed suicide during the Maratha quota protests from October 20 to November 1. Most of them died by hanging, while others jumped into wells or consumed poison. The suicides occurred despite appeals from activists and politicians. The opposition criticized the government for its handling of the situation and the delay in making a decision on Maratha reservation. The Congress and NCP leaders blamed the BJP and Shiv Sena for focusing on toppling the government instead of addressing the reservation issue.
