The BMC reclaimed a 6.5-acre plot in Malad from encroachments, including 63 furniture shops. The BMC plans to build a protective boundary wall and transform the space into a Vedic-themed park following a request from local MP Gopal Shetty. The shopkeepers had even expanded their businesses underground. Despite facing resistance and legal challenges, the BMC successfully carried out the reclamation and intends to level the ground, plant trees, and provide lighting to develop the space into a public park.
