Train mishaps halve in Maha, but state is still first on list

Maharashtra recorded the highest number of accidents and fatalities on railways in 2020, for the second straight year, according to data released by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB). But the silver lining of the pandemic-induced lockdown was that rail accidents decreased by half in the state — from 6,338 in 2019 to 2,697 in 2020. A majority of accidents on railways were caused during track crossing or from falling off a running train.
